One of my hobbies is gardening. Helen and I love to dream what could be and start working towards it. Hope is a big allure for both of us in the garden. I’m probably a little crazy about it. God loves gardens too. I believe He has been planting seeds of big plans He has for our Navigators Church Ministries (NCM) team.]
In February I told you about the surprises at our NCM strategy meetings. The Lord showed up in big ways for our team. We came away from the time unified around a few steps. We want to build 100 practitioners of our church disciplemaking process (GiDC) who’ll work with 400 congregations at any given time, turning out 1,000 disciplemakers every year. Big goals! One hundred practitioners, 400 churches, and 1,000 disciplemakers. How would we see these goals become reality?
This is how God has been growing his garden.
My seedlings bring me hope for basil, tomatoes, and more! I believe God has set us up for harvest in Navigators Church Ministries.Right after the February meetings our first step was to reinvigorate our GiDC practitioner’s training. Nine trainers are gathering monthly working towards 100 practitioners. That same week we became aware that the Lilly Foundation was asking for grant requests to strengthen churches. We started working immediately on it. If we receive the grant, we believe it could triple our staff and quadruple our work with churches!
In March we were contacted by our friends at Discipleship.org about a survey they were releasing. They asked us to be the first to discuss it nationally on a webinar. We absolutely agree with the findings, and it fits with our GiDC strategy. We had 400 people sign up for the webinar and are now on our national mailing list.
As the webinar was about to happen, Nav IT contacted us to say the software running our NCM website was going away. We had to race to remake our site. Two weeks ago, it launched. It looks great, and it is designed to help us serve and build relationships with pastors and church leaders. This, too, will enhance our ability to reach our big goals.
God has orchestrated all of this beautifully. We took a step of faith to believe He could use us in the 100, 400 and 1,000 strategy. The Lord, I believe, is leading us. Proverbs 16:9 speaks exactly to this, “We can make our plans, but the LORD determines our steps” (NLT).
